Last Updated / Reviewed: Jan 10th, 2023
Execution Time: ~5 minutes
Goal: To configure Search Console data in Google Analytics;
Ideal Outcome: To have Google Search Console data being reported inside your Google Analytics account;
Prerequisites or requirements: You must have configured Search Console for that domain. If you haven’t already you will need to follow SOP020 - Setting up Google Search Console first.
Why this is important: By bringing Search Console data to Google Analytics you’ll be able to take advantage of Google Analytics powerful reporting features and centralize your Web Analytics data in a single spot.
Where this is done: In Google Analytics and Google Search Console.
When this is done: Only once. If you haven’t done it before you’ll want to do it now.
Who does this: The person responsible for SEO or Analytics in your organization.
Check if you already have a Google Search Console site linked to your Google Analytics account
- Make sure that you’re working on the Google Analytics Account that you want to link with Google Search Console:
- Verify that you haven’t linked Google Search Console already, by heading to ‘Acquisition’ → ‘Search Console’ → ‘Landing Pages’. If you see a message like the one below you haven’t linked Google Search Console yet, so you’ll need to move ahead to the next chapter.
Link Google Search Console
- In your Google Analytics Account click ‘Admin’ on the bottom left sidebar.
- Make sure you’re working on the property that you want to link with Google Search Console → Click “Property Settings”
- Click “Adjust Search Console”
- Click “Add”
- Select the site that you want to link with your Google Analytics account:
Note: If you do not see your site in there it’s likely due to one of the two options:- You have not configured Search Console yet for that domain. If that is the case you will need to follow SOP020 - Setting up Google Search console first.
- You are logged in to the wrong Google account. Make sure you’re on the right account and that account has access to Google Search Console:
- Click ‘Ok’ to confirm that you want to link to this property:
- In most cases, you will want to leave the default option (all the views selected) on the dropdown, and simply click “Save”.
- That’s it! If you perform the same steps in the first chapter of this SOP you should now see Google Search Console data reports:
